Rela Gleason launched her interior design career with her own kitchen and bath remodel in San Francisco in 1970. Fueled by creative impulses and the heady scent of sawdust, she began creating interiors for clients through word of mouth. Happily, daughter Keri inherited the design gene, which was enhanced by constant exposure to every aspect of the building and furnishing process. Packed into her stroller, she often accompanied Mom to the San Francisco Design Center. Project site visits and dump runs in the open bed of the old Chevy pick up with big brother Jono and Sammy the Golden Retriever were weekly family outings. Those outings did nothing to inspire Jono to join the family business, and he has gone on to a successful career in nearby Silicon Valley. Meanwhile, Keri was bitten by the “Design Bug.”

Through spec house remodels with husband Don, and her home accessory gift shop, APROPOS, Rela’s career expanded as they raised their family on the San Francisco Peninsula. Little Keri accompanied her on antique buying trips to Europe, absorbing yet another aspect of the design business.

In 1985 Rela launched Summer Hill, Ltd with her own classic and signature furniture and fabric designs. The furniture was manufactured in the family’s factory where Keri worked after school and during summers. After college graduation and a brief stint in tech sales, Keri officially joined Summer Hill, where she paid her dues in all areas of the business from packing and shipping to customer service and sales. With the manufacturing experience under her belt, she was a proponent for opening the Summer Hill Showroom at the SF Design Center she had first visited in her stroller. She managed that flagship, working closely with her colleagues running the company showrooms in New York and Chicago. Her working relationships with established interior designers inspired many of the furniture designs she and Rela went on to create together.

Today, with over 60 combined years of experience, Keri and Rela know every aspect of the industry and bring their perspective and knowledge to every project. From textile and furniture design to home and garden, the GG Design team is well prepared for all your design challenges.

Keri lives with husband Matt their three children in Piedmont, California. Rela and her husband Don split their time between the Napa Valley and San Miguel, Mexico.
